The Department of Science and Technology – Regional Metrology Laboratory (RML) distributed 25 thermal scanners to Local Government Units and government agencies to help LGUs monitor symptoms of COVID-19 in the region.
This project, under the Caraga-wide Calibration and Verification of Contactless Thermal Scanners in Support to DOST-Caraga’s Initiative for COVID-19 Mitigation, aims to ensure the proper use of contactless thermal scanners during the pandemic. These thermal scanners have been calibrated or verified to ensure that the units will give accurate thermal readings. These will serve as reference thermal scanners against which a thermal scanner’s reading may be compared to ascertain the correctness of its output.DOH Caraga Center for Health Development, RML, and Provincial Government Units in the five provinces each received two units of thermal scanners and one each in Bislig, Tandag, Surigao, Butuan, Cabadbaran, and Bayugan.
To facilitate early detection of COVID-19, RML also conducted a webinar on the proper use and verification of thermal scanners among Provincial Science and Technology Centers in the region.
The Regional Metrology Laboratory under the DOST-Caraga Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory is an ISO certified laboratory that conducts calibration tests including temperature scanners for accurate readings.
RML also offers free temperature calibration services of thermal scanners during the pandemic. For interested clients, visit their laboratory inside Caraga State University Campus, Brgy. Ampayon, Butuan City. You can set an appointment through firstname.lastname@example.org or message the DOST-Caraga Facebook page.341
