Surigao Sur Pupils take PSHS Examination

Two hundred one (201) graduating elementary pupils in Surigao del Sur took the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) - National Competitive Examination (NCE) last September 29, 2012 in two (2) testing centers: Tandag City and Bislig City.

The examination was conducted to measure the scientific ability, quantitative ability, abstract reasoning, and verbal aptitude of the students.

PSHS scholars are entitled to a monthly stipend, free tuition fee, free loan of textbooks, uniform allowance (per school year), transportation allowance (twice per year) and dormitory. Scholars are expected to meet the highest standard of academic achievement and behavior to avail the scholarship privileges.

PHSH is a Service Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) whose mandate include offering scholarship for incoming high school with special emphasis on science and math subjects as embodied under Section 2 of RA 3661 on establishing PSHS. (Jowena Sherrie J. Cenas, DOST-SDS)
