DOST Caraga accredits S & T experts

BUTUAN CITY, PHILIPPINES- DOST accredits twenty-three academicians and researchers from Caraga to the growing pool of consultants in its newest online consultancy platform, One Expert. The one-day activity highlighted the orientation and hands-on work shop for participants on February 8, 2017 at Amaris Grill, Butuan City.

Director Dominga D. Mallonga of DOST XIII, delivered a welcome message in the preliminary part of the program. She is likewise thankful to the people from the academe and research institutions for giving a positive feedback on DOST’s thrive in helping the community through S & T interventions. Mr. Ricardo N. Varela, Assistant Regional Director for the Technical Operations, also presented the overview of One Expert, its guidelines and the need for more resource people in the conduct of consultancy programs. After the presentation, participants were given the chance to ask questions and clarifications. Several issues were raised during the forum such as the engagement of the experts with private entities, consultancy processes and DOST’s role as a mediator between the expert and the client. All questions were answered by Mr. Varela, with Dr. Rowena Varela, Caraga State University Vice-President for Research and Extension also giving inputs on behalf of the university’s involvement.

Newly-accredited experts signed up and filled in their personal background, field/s of expertise and related experience on the One Expert App, with Mr. Anthony Yanto, One Expert Coordinator, facilitating.

One Expert is a nationwide interactive web-based tool of S & T pool of experts who are intended to provide technical advise and consultancy services to Filipinos anywhere in the Philippines. In the same way, it creates access to experts and technologies particularly by people living outside of the major urban centers where most research and technical institutions are located. It was officially launched during the celebration of the 2016 National Science and Technology Week in July.
