DOST Secretary Lauds DOST Caraga’s Programs and Projects

sirboyDepartment of Science and Technology Secretary Fortunato T. Dela Peña commended DOST Caraga Regional Office for the successful implementation of its programs and projects in the region during his visit to Caraga on October 23-25, 2016.

Joining Sec. FTP in his visit are Directors Richard Burgos of Science and Technology Information Institute (STII)  and Edgar Garcia of Technology Application and Promotions Institute, together with the staff of STII and crew of DOSTv.

The Secretary made an ocular visit to the on-going construction of the Philippine Science High School in Butuan City. He commended the fast-paced construction of the buildings as well as its modern architecture design. The construction is said to be completed next year.

Aside from the ocular visit, the Secretary went to see the clean and systematic meat processing of the Abattoir in Butuan City and the cold storage facilities of DOST’s SETUP client, Jida Aqua Resources.

The Projects’ Eco-friendly Septic System Project in Siargao Island (ECOSEP), the Local Government Unit Information Dissemination System (LGUIDS), and the Science and Technology Research-based Openly Operated Kiosk Station (STARBOOKS), were also launched during the Secretary’s visit in Placer, Surigao del Norte on October 24. Vice Governor Arturo Carlos Egay Jr. with Mayor Michael Patiño’s rep Mr. Philip Sykinte, Secretary FTP, Director Burgos, Director Garcia, Director Gonzaga of the Philippine Science High School Caraga and Director Mallonga, also joined the ceremonial turnover of the Metal Processing Equipment to Surigao del Norte – Provincial Community Training Center.

Mayor Jasmin F. Monton of Jabonga also welcomed the Secretary during his SMARTER CEST visit in Jabonga, Agusan del Norte. Kevin Bryan Paris of DOST IV-A and developer of the Local Government Unit Information Dissemination System gave an overview on how LGUIDS is used while Engr. Meriam Santillan of the Phil. LIDAR 1 explained the Flood EVIDENS System of the Phil. LIDAR Project. Both projects were launched in Jabonga.

The Secretary also praised the effective implementation of Caraga State University’s Phil. LIDAR Projects when he dropped by the university during his visit. Likewise, he witnessed the Launching of the Food Safety Modules, turnover of the Luminometer and Food Safety Materials to Market Vendor beneficiaries on October 25. The Memorandum of Understanding of the partnership between DOST Caraga, Winrock International – Philippine Cold Chain Project, Philippine Information Agency Caraga, and the Caraga Food Safety Team for the Food Safe Caraga campaign was signed on the same event.
